The statement
Zionism is not racism. I call on the Green Party to reverse its “Zionism is Racism” motion.
On 4 October 2026 the Green Party of England and Wales passed a motion declaring that Zionism is racism. It brands the belief of most British Jews as racism. Councillors of every other party are invited to say, in their own name, that it is wrong. Why Zionism is not racism.

Cllr Beverley L. BrewerSouth Woodford, RedbridgeIt is shameful to vote against a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine and to condemn the vast majority of British Jews and Jews around the world as racist for supporting Israel’s right to exist. The leadership of the Green Party and Green councillors must make clear that this will not be their position moving forwards. I will continue working to ensure our Jewish communities are safe, feel safe and have their rights upheld.
Cllr Helen GreenBentley Heath & The Royds, Hertsmere
Cllr Michael RubinsteinPilkington Park, BuryHappy to belong to a political party which has dealt with its Antisemitism years ago (with a little help from me, I'm proud to say) and which has condemned the disgraceful Antisemitic Green Party Motion.

Cllr Seema ChandwaniWest Green, Haringey
Cllr Shaun EdgeCrawcrook and Greenside, GatesheadI stand firmly with Gateshead’s Jewish community, one of the most established Orthodox Jewish communities in Britain, with a proud history stretching back over a century. But supporting our Jewish neighbours and standing up for Palestinian rights are not mutually exclusive. I believe firmly in a two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace, security and dignity.
Cllr David WhitakerWest End Ward, LancasterSigning in Solidarity with The Jewish Community in these challenging times in accordance with my belief that there is no place for Hatred or Prejudice against any group of people.
Cllr Liz PatelSale Moor Ward, Trafford
Cllr Adam GilesCrome, Norwich
Cllr Mike HobdayLondon Colney, St AlbansI firmly believe that Zionism is not racism, and I remain steadfast in my support for a two-state solution that guarantees peace, prosperity, security and self-determination for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Cllr Emma TurnbullLondon Colney, St Albans
Cllr Martin SachsBarkingside, RedbridgeI strongly oppose the Green Party's recent decision on this.
Cllr Jason WoodScotforth East Ward, LancasterThese are complex issues that cannot be reduced to single sentence slogans
Cllr Colin Hartley JPHeysham South Ward, LancasterWhile I support this campaign I do not endorse the actions of the Netanyahu government relating to Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Cllr Geraline KilgourFellgate & Hedworth, South TynesideI strongly oppose the motion supported at the Green Party Conference.
Cllr Linda BowenRochester West and Borstal, MedwayYou can stand against the actions of the current Israeli regime without denying the right of Israel to exist. My thoughts are with all those who lost their lives on 07/10/23 and since, whether Israeli or Palestinian. I support a two state solution.
Cllr Carolyn RedfernHertford Sele, East Hertfordshire
Cllr Andrea HodgsonBounds Green, Haringey
Cllr Richard LeemingDulwich Village, Southwark

Cllr Mark CherryBanbury Ruscote, Cherwell
Cllr Emma HamptonUniversity, Norwich
Cllr Keith DriverLakenham, Norwich
Cllr Kelly DuddridgeVictoria, North NorthamptonshireI have always supported the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine to find a peaceful way forward. I do not believe that Jewish communities living in the UK should be subject to condemnation or viewed as racist simply for supporting Israel’s right to exist. Criticising the Israeli Government's policies is not antisemitic, and neither is calling out Israel's actions in Gaza and the West bank. You can be pro-two state solution and still call these actions out. The Green motion implies otherwise. I do not support othering of whole communities based on the actions of Israel's Government.
Cllr Bill WilliamsChampion Hill, SouthwarkJewish self-determination is a right. Declaring it racist is an attack on Jews. The Green party has chosen to brand Jews who hold this belief as racists and make their equal participation in the party conditional on renouncing it. This is without doubt the most antisemitic and racist motion brought before a mainstream political party in my lifetime. It is Corbynism on steroids.
Cllr Carli HarperLakenham, NorwichWe cannot equivocate on racism. We cannot pick and choose which types of racism we oppose. You can absolutely oppose the Netanyahu Government, stand against illegal West Bank settlements and be appalled by the loss of life and destruction in Gaza, and still believe that Israel has the right to exist, and that Jews have the right to self-determination.
Cllr Hugh MalyanWeston-super-Mare South Worle, North SomersetZionism is the aspiration for a national homeland. To call it racism is a perversion.
Cllr Dr Shabina QayyumEast, PeterboroughAs the leader of a council, I always want to bring people together. I too bleed for Palestinian children.I am deeply concerned about the potential of this motion to divide our communities further, make Jewish residents feel unsafe and lead to horrific repercussion and consequence on Palestinians after seeing the destruction in Gaza. This does not mean at all that any political party has the right to take ownership over a Jewish community, or residents belief to be aligned with their place of worship a homeland Or to be placed at risk or in Jeopardy here in this country.
Cllr Catherine PotterHeysham South Ward, Lancaster
Cllr Richard DaviesThames, ReadingAs a Labour Councillor, I strongly believe political dialogue must be rooted in mutual respect, nuanced understanding, and constructive debate. Conflating Zionism—the movement for the self-determination of the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland—with racism is inaccurate, divisive, and alienating to the Jewish community. While robust debate over state policies and actions in the region is essential in a healthy democracy, defining a foundational core of Jewish identity as inherently racist undermines effective dialogue and inclusion. I urge the Green Party to reverse its motion.
Cllr Norma ParrishPanteg, Torfaen
Cllr Kaushika AminNorthumberland Park, Haringey
Cllr Adrian LoweChorley North and Astley, Chorley
Cllr David WilliamsLlanyrafon, TorfaenThe state of Israel has the right to exist, and the Palestinian people should have their own land with a right to self determination. Equating zionism with racism does not support either Israelis or Palestinians and is divisive when we need collaborative action.
Cllr Jeremy NewmarkBorehamwood Cowley Hill, HertsmereZionism is the national liberation movement of the Jewish people. The new Green Party policy is, put simply, antisemitic Anti-Zionism.
Cllr Milly HillCam East, StroudI was horrified to see this motion passed at the Green Party conference. Poor judgement. For the purposes of this statement my definition of Zionism is the right of Israel to exist. Despite the dreadful Hamas led atrocities of October 7th, I'm deeply critical of the response of this Netayahu led government and appalled by the inhumanity of the situation that they have created in Gaza. I do not support expansionist Israeli settlers throwing Palestinians off their land. I support the right of Israel to exist and regard the two state solution as the only way forwards.
