We Conservatives are extremely concerned about this motion, and what this says to Jews in our community. For most British Jews, Zionism is not an extreme ideology. It is the simple belief that the Jewish people, after centuries of persecution which culminated in the Holocaust, should have a homeland where they are safe. It is part of their faith, their family history and their identity.
They have put their name to it, so there is no need to email them asking. Ask the other councillors on Derby City Council instead.

On 4 October 2026 the Green Party of England and Wales passed a motion declaring that "Zionism is racism". It brands as racism the belief, held by around nine in ten British Jews, that the Jewish people have the right to a homeland of their own, and binds the party to treat that belief "as any other form of racism". Councillors and MPs of every other party are being asked to say, in public, that Zionism is not racism.
